A short blog post today to let you all know that my novella*, Dreams of Fire, is out today!
It’s currently only out as an ebook – although a physical edition will be released next year (which will include Dreams of Fire plus two more Gael Song novellas)
Why a novella, you might ask?
Well, I wanted to explore some of the backstory. I also wanted to give new readers an opportunity to see my world without having to commit to a whole novel. But mostly, I loved the idea of giving fans of my series an opportunity to see more of Rónnat and Fódla. Rónnat is such a pivotal character but often lurks in the shadows. Having the opportunity to write in her voice was liberating.
As soon as I had the idea to write a novella, I instantly knew that I wanted to give everyone a story that focused heavily on the war between the two mythological tribes of Ireland. In The Children of Gods and Fighting Men, the Descendants of the Tuatha Dé Danann think they have killed all the Fomorians. Gormflaith obviously knows this is not true, and so a secret war begins.
However, I wanted to take the reader back to a time when the two tribes both existed and were openly fighting each other.
It was a lot of fun for me to write and I hope you all enjoy reading.
I’ve been editing for a long time now – between this, my second novella and The Land of the Living and the Dead, I’m excited for fans to read a finished product. And hopefully for those who are waiting for book 3, this will be a nice treat to keep you occupied until September.
* A novella is usually defined as a work of literature between 20k and 40k words.
