TBR for 2024

Hi everyone

So another year has ended! I cannot believe it. In 2023 I managed to read 32 books. Some of them were simply amazing – so it’s going to be difficult year to surpass.

December reads were The Book of Love by Kelly Link and The Daughter’s War by Christopher Buehlman- both of which were excellent! Make sure to keep an eye out for both of those when they are released in 2024.

But as for me… what will I be reading?

Let’s take a look at my 2024 TBR to find out!

A classic series

I will be doing a readalong with Stephen Aryan and Mike Shakle over at Stephen’s YouTube channel. This is a series I’ve been meaning to read for years – and indeed all 3 physical copies are on my bookshelf already. We plan to read a book a month, then discuss on Stephen’s channel. If you want to join our readalong, please do so – and I will post links to the chat on my twitter page closer to the time.

Finishing completed series

My current read is Jade War – and so obviously Jade Legacy is a must read for early 2024.

My current audiobook read is Wheel of Osheim by Mark Lawrence. I have to say, audiobooks can be hit or miss for me. I think the narrator counts for a lot – so I’m pleased to say that Sean Ohlendorf (who narrates this series) is excellent.

Another book I’ve been trying to get to is Heart of the Sun Warrior. I really loved the sweet Daughter of the Moon Goddess last year and so finishing this duology is also a must read for early next year.

New books in an ongoing series

These are my books that are set in ongoing series. Some of these books might be the final installment, however, as of the 31st December, these books are not yet available in the public domain.

I’ve been hearing great things about The Trials of Empire already – and am very excited to see how this trilogy ends. But I have to say all these series really hooked me in with previous instalments, so as soon as they are out, I will be reading

I’ve also stuck down The Judas Blossom by Stephen Aryan. I’ve already read this book, however, the cover for the second book in the series is not yet available – so I’ve used the first book cover as a placeholder.

Sci-fi continuing series

This is a series I’m very excited about. Honestly, if you have not yet started the Sun Eater series, you are missing out. Christopher Ruocchio is a terrific writer – and I think this series is destined to be a classic. In fact, Howling Dark and Demon in White might be two of my all-time favourite books. I’m still thinking about them.

The Bound and the Broken

I purchased physical copies of this series. I have just had to accept that I cannot cope with e-books. They are good for reading a chapter a night time, but for a series this epic, I really needed to hold the actual books.

I’ve already read (and enjoyed) Of Blood and Fire and The Fall – so I’m excited to get stuck into the rest of the series.

For those who haven’t already started, this is such a great series. It has those old school classic fantasy vibes which I just adore.

Indie

As you all I know I love my indie reads. The quality of indie books are just the same as traditionally published books in my opinion – I also think they can often be more ambitious than traditionally published books, which is a huge plus for me.

New series

These are new series that I really want to start this year! I’ve heard great things about all three and am hoping to delve into them in 2024.

Novella

I CANNOT wait to read this novella! Anna Spark Smith is one of my all time favourite authors. After the superb The Sword of Bronze and Ashes last year, I need to read what she’s written next! The vibes are dark – and I’m here for it ⚔️

Historical Fiction

I am hoping to read some more historical fiction next year. Nero from the wonderful Conn Iggulden is top of the list. I already have a copy from Netgalley, so I hope to get to this one soon.

I haven’t heard much about Sparrow – only that it’s very good. The premise is very intriguing – and sometimes that is enough for me to give a book a chance.

So there we have it! My TBR!

I hope I manage to read them all. I have a feeling I might struggle to read as much this year as last year. My own books and edits are taking up a lot of time. However, I will be selecting from what is here.

Let me know what you think – and let me know if there is anything I have forgotten.

  1. A great (and ambitious) list! Glad to see you’ll be finishing out the Green Bone Saga, it’s a top series for me!
Have not yet heard of Anna Smith Spark but all-time favorite author is high praise. Gonna check her out.
I’ve got Godkiller on my list for this year too so I’m sure I’ll be hype for Sunbringer when it comes!
Looking forward to seeing the reviews! Happy Reading! Happy 2024!

  2. Shauna could we try (again) a readalong this year? some of these books are on my TBR, some were on my wishlist already and now I added more of these to my wishlist… I have Ken Liu, Tad Williams… I don’t know, I’d read whatever you suggested!
