Hi everyone! It’s the start of June which means it’s less than 3 months until my book is released! The countdown is on.
There is plenty of writing and reading news this month!
So – let’s get into it!
So the first amazing piece of news is that I have a Broken Binding special edition. I’m so excited! There are 500 signed copies available. Pre orders take place on the 4th June (for Broken Binding Subscribers) and then are available to pre order on the 5th June for everyone else. Orders will be taken from 12pm BST.
Here’s a preview of what it will look like! Check out at those sprayed edges! 🔥🔥🔥
It took quite a while to sign all the pages, but I honestly enjoyed every minute of it. Suddenly, being an author feels very real.
I also received a few more endorsements from other authors!
The first was from Stephen Aryan
‘A compelling and fascinating tale, written with great skill, that draws the reader into a world full of magic, betrayal, warring kings and mythology. With all the complex political machinations of A Song of Ice and Fire and the bloody battles of The Warlord Chronicles, it’s ideal for fans of bothEndorsement for The Children of Gods and Fighting Men from Stephen Aryan
Stephen is a fantastic writer with a brilliant YouTube channel for writers – and he also has a special edition with the Broken Binding at the minute. The lettered edition looks amazing.
I had another endorsement from Ian Green, the author of the wonderful book, The Gauntlet and the Fist Beneath.
An epic historical fantasy that weaves myth and history into a sprawling tale of magic, intrigue, and war. Absorbing and richly detailed.Endorsement for The Children of Gods and Fighting Men from Ian Green
I also had another amazing review from Sue Bavey – over at the Booknest EU Blog. If you want to whet your appetite, you can hit the link below.
In terms of my own writing, I’m doing my final review of The Words of Kings and Prophets before handing it into my publisher. I’m away on holiday next week, so working furiously to have it finished before I go!
As an added note, I had a lot of people ask me to write a post about Irish Mythology because they didn’t know what to read or where to start. So last month, I put out my first mythology post – which is a high level overview of everything. If you want to read it, here’s the link below – and I’ll be putting together another post in June – which will delve into the Mythological Cycle.
As I mentioned above, I’ve been furiously editing my second book, so reading for this month has taken a back seat. However, I was able to read these books in the month of May.
The first wasn’t a planned read, however, I was completely unable to put One Word Kill down after I read the first page. Mark Lawrence certainly has a way with words.
Here’s my full (spoiler-free) review if you want to read it.
A Touch of Light is a self published book by Thiago Abdalla. I know that Thiago has entered this book in the SPFBO 8 competition and I wish him so much good luck. My full review is pending – but let me just say this is a serious contender. Excellent prose, excellent characters, and a complex world with differing views on death and what it means.
In terms of my current reads – they are on hold (because I’m editing) – but they are SOOO good that I’m raging I can’t get to them. Both are EXCELLENT so far.
But – ah ha – the edits finish soon. Then I’m taking a wee break for a couple of weeks and once I finish Empire of Silence and Prince of Fools, these are the books I’m desperate to sink my teeth into.
That’s it for now. I’ll hopefully be posting a few more blog posts once my edits are over – and of course, I’ll be tweeting any news of interest.
Shauna Lawless is an author and her upcoming series is a historical fantasy set in 10th century, Ireland. The first book, The Children of Gods and Fighting Men, is now available to pre-order.
Here are some links – however, lots of other chains and independent book stores are also stocking my book.
