This is a fun little blog I do – where I chat about what I’ve just finished reading, what I’m currently reading, and what I’m going to read next.

I’ve also added a section where I look ahead to November and see what books I’ll be plucking from my TBR!

If you’ve read any of these books, let me know what you think!

What I’ve Finished

PAPERBACK

I finished this a couple of weeks ago – and just massively enjoyed this new book from John Gwynne.

You can read my full review below – but needless to say – this is a definite thumbs up!

Book Review – The Shadow of the Gods by John Gwynne

KINDLE

This was a Fantology Discord readalong. It wasn’t on my TBR at the time, but what a great read it was.

We had a lovely bookclub chat about it on the discord too – which always makes finishing a book more exciting – plus there were lots of interesting perspectives about the tower and where the story might be headed.

See below for my full review, but just to say, this was a great story, and I’ve already started book 2 in the series.

Book Review – Senlin Ascends by Josiah Bancroft (spoiler-free)

What I’m Reading

PAPERBACK

I’m now 35% through Dune – and absolutely loving it. The scheming, the people, the planet of Arrakis itself. I find the absence of water, how the native people survive, and the link between the giant worms and spice, fascinating. But also the Bene Gesserit is an intriguing group, and I wonder how much control they exert over Jessica. Only time will tell.

I am also loving the cast of characters. Paul and Jessica are my favourite, but the way the whole family and loyal friends behave around Duke Leto gives me historical fiction vibes.

The start of the novel absolutely hooked me – and I didn’t expect it to, given that sci-fi isn’t usually a genre I enjoy. Maybe I need to revaluate that opinion. In fact, I absolutely do.

I’m also very excited to see the movie – which I’m going to see hopefully this weekend. I need to get a move on with the book if that’s the case. Only 4 more days to finish it.

KINDLE

Told you I had already started the second book in the Books of Babel!

I’m a few chapters into Arm of the Sphinx. I really enjoyed Senlin Ascends and looking forward to continuing the journey. Hoping we get to see a few more levels of the tower and now Thomas isn’t as naive, perhaps we might get a better understanding as to what the Tower is all about.

What I’m Reading Next

PAPERBACK

This is an indie book that was given to me by the author. The cover is beautiful and the premise sounds very interesting. I’m looking forward to reading this once I’ve finished Dune.

KINDLE

Seeing as I’m enjoying this series so much, I’m going to keep going with it. The fourth book is released in November and I’m hoping to read it once it’s released.

November picks

This is what’s coming up.

This book is a readalong and I’m looking forward to reading The Red Wolf Conspiracy along with Friends Talking Fantasy and Blaise at Under the Radar Books. I’m a sucker for books that take place on boats – so the cover alone has my interest.

The Pariah is a book I’ve been saving. This is a book I want to savour and enjoy. Definitely a winter read too!

This is my November kindle read. I obviously have to finish book 2, and then get through book 3 – but given how much I’ve enjoyed the series so far, I don’t think that will be a problem!
