Blog challenge – I’m a sucker for….

Thanks to Sue Bavey from Sue’s Musings at http://www.suelbavey.wordpress.com for giving me this challenge of talking about a favourite trope in fantasy that I’m a sucker for.

Now this didn’t even me a moments thought! In fantasy novels, I’m a sucker for a strong female lead. If you add in a female protagonist with magical powers, then, well… I’m hooked.

Some of my favourite magical female characters are as follows:

Daenerys Targaryen

From the illustrated edition of Game of Thrones

She starts of completely overshadowed by her older brother, but ends up taking control of her own destiny. Plus she is immune to fire and has dragons. 🐉🐉🐉

Wasn’t a massive fan of how she turned out in Season 8 of the TV show, but I’m hoping George R.R Martin gives her a better ending!

Hermoine Granger

From the illustrated edition of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban

This character is essentially me – but with a wand and encyclopaedic knowledge of spells! A way better sidekick than Ron – and just as brave as Harry, I loved this character instantly. 🧙‍♀️

Nona Grey

Brave, a warrior, a loyal friend. Nona Grey is an amazing protagonist to follow. She has magical powers too (won’t go into what as I don’t want to spoil the story) which grow as the story develops.

And also – who knew that killer-ninja nuns could be so much fun! 🗡

Shallan Davar

Both intelligent and talented, Shallan is another fantastic female protagonist. When we first meet her, she is timid and shy, and yet willing to participate in a daring theft.

As the story progresses, we find out she is much more than she first appears and is a pivotal character in the upcoming fight against the Desolation. 🎨 ✍️ 📚

If you know of any other strong female protagonists that you think I’d like, let me know.
